Marston Moor is the site of a major battle fought during the English Civil War on July 2, 1644. It was the largest battle of the war, fought between the Parliamentarian and Scottish Covenanter armies against the Royalist forces led by Prince Rupert. The Parliamentarian and Covenanter victory at Marston Moor significantly weakened the Royalist cause and shifted the balance of power in the war.

The battle took place on a moorland area west of York, between the villages of Long Marston and Tockwith.

The Royalist army, led by Prince Rupert and the Marquess of Newcastle, faced a combined Parliamentarian and Scottish Covenanter army under the Earl of Leven, the Earl of Manchester, and Sir Thomas Fairfax.

The Parliamentarian and Covenanter forces achieved a decisive victory, inflicting heavy losses on the Royalists.
