Musketeer (Musket/Shot)

Our musketeer is armed with a matchlock musket and rest for use when firing. As the civil war progressed muskets tended to become lighter and shorter and the rest was dispensed with. He wears a leather bandolier with wooden containers attached (called apostles). Each apostle contained sufficient coarse black powder for a single shot. He carries a leather pouch which contain the musket ball and a flask containing fine black powder for priming the musket and a container of oil for cleaning and maintenance use. He’s also armed with a cheap short sword which is as much use for chopping fire wood as for fighting. Musketeers generally found the butt-end of the musket of more use in hand to hand combat.
