After our big event at Chester over the August Bank Holiday weekend, we knew that the season was starting to wind down, but there were still a few events to look forward to over the Autumn and first up was ‘Warfare Through the Ages’, a mulit-period event being organised by our friends in Tillier’s and being held at Bovington Tank Museum.
We were mainly looking forward to seeing the tanks if we’re all honest, because what’s better than spending a weekend fighting AND looking at tanks?! Nothing, is what!

Last weekend we had the most glorious time in the city of Chester, taking part in the society’s biggest event of the year over the August Bank Holiday weekend. It turned out to be a really good one and so nice to have such a big event in a city. We are usually at a more rural location for such events so it made a nice change.

This event was run by English Heritage and didn’t involve the whole society. Instead ourselves and Lisle’s Regiment from The Sealed Knot were joined by Winchester’s and Fairfax’s regiments of the English Civil WarSociety.Â
Once or twice a year Newcastle’s take on events like this, where we can set up a big ‘Living History’ authentic camp open to the public allowing us to demonstrate as a regiment not just the battle, but what life itself was like in the 17th Century.

Whilst the Newcastle’s Blog Writing Fairy was sunning herself in the South of France, the regiment took part in the annual commemorative march at the battlefield of Marston Moor, Yorkshire. Once again Graham was there and is able to step in and provide a round up of what went on! (The Newcastle’s Blog Writing Fairy will be making far more effort soon!)

This weekend Newcastle’s were in Naseby, Northamptonshire, an area well frequented by Newcastle’s and The Sealed Knot as a whole over the years.

Unfortunately, our usual blog writing fairy couldn’t make it to this event, so Graham stepped up to write a short round up of events.

It was the first proper event of the year for Newcastles Regiment this weekend and we were very lucky to be involved with a big event in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
